Assassin's Creed Valhalla follows the Viking warrior Eivor as its main protagonist.
Eivor leads a Norse clan from Norway to England during the Viking expansion of the ninth century. The story centers on establishing a settlement and building alliances across Anglo-Saxon England while Eivor becomes involved in the conflict between the Hidden Ones and the Order of the Ancients.
The player can choose a male or female presentation for Eivor, and the game explains this unusual feature through its narrative and Animus framework. The character's name remains Eivor in either presentation. Eivor uses a hidden blade supplied by the Hidden One Basim, although the blade is worn visibly above the forearm rather than concealed beneath it.
Eivor is fictional, while figures such as Ragnar Lothbrok and Ivar the Boneless belong to Scandinavian historical tradition and are not the game's protagonist.
