Assassin's Creed Origins follows Bayek of Siwa as he investigates the death of his son, Khemu. Bayek is a Medjay, a protector and lawkeeper in ancient Egypt, and his personal quest draws him into the origins of the Hidden Ones.
Origins is set during the first century BCE, when Egypt is ruled by the Ptolemaic dynasty. Bayek and his wife, Aya, oppose the Order of the Ancients, a secret organization that later becomes linked to the Templars.
The game was released in 2017 and changed the series formula by adding stronger role-playing systems, character levels, loot, and a large map of Egypt. Players can explore places such as Alexandria, Memphis, and Siwa.
Bayek is not the same character as Senu, his trained eagle, or Ptolemy XIII, the young ruler involved in the political background. Bayek's story explains the fictional historical roots of the Assassin Brotherhood.
