Rally de Catalunya is held around the town of Salou on Costa Daurada’s asphalt roads.
The Spanish WRC event is based in Catalonia and became known for wide, smooth and sweeping tarmac stages around Salou, a resort town on the Costa Daurada. The rally’s mix of fast asphalt and technical corners made it one of the championship’s classic sealed-surface contests.
The event was first held in 1957. In 1988, Rally Catalunya merged with Rally Costa Brava and adopted the name Rally Catalunya–Costa Brava before later becoming associated with Costa Daurada. It joined the World Rally Championship schedule in 1991 and remained there through 2022.
Tarragona is the nearby provincial capital, which explains why it can appear in rally descriptions and route information, but it is not the town used as the rally’s central answer. Lleida has hosted starts or stages in some editions, while Girona belongs more closely to the rally’s earlier Costa Brava associations.
