Amelia Earhart was the first woman to do what?

Amelia Earhart was the first woman to fly solo across the Atlantic. On May 20–21, 1932, she piloted a single-engine Lockheed Vega from Harbour Grace, Newfoundland, to Northern Ireland, completing the flight in about 14 hours and 54 minutes.

The achievement was especially significant because Earhart had already crossed the Atlantic in 1928 as a passenger aboard the Fokker F.VII Friendship. Although that earlier flight made her the first woman to cross the Atlantic by air, she was unhappy that she had not been the pilot. Her 1932 journey established her as the first woman—and only the second person after Charles Lindbergh—to complete a solo nonstop transatlantic flight.

Earhart received the Distinguished Flying Cross for the feat and became an international celebrity. She later set other aviation records, including the first solo flight from Hawaii to California. In 1937, she disappeared over the Pacific while attempting to circumnavigate the globe.
