Alex Auld, who was drafted into the NHL in 1999, is from Canada. He was born in Cold Lake, Alberta, and became a Canadian professional ice hockey goaltender.
The Florida Panthers selected Auld 40th overall in the second round of the 1999 NHL Entry Draft. He later played in the NHL for the Vancouver Canucks, Florida Panthers, Phoenix Coyotes, Boston Bruins, Ottawa Senators, Dallas Stars, New York Rangers, and Montreal Canadiens.
Auld also represented Canada internationally. He was part of Canada’s bronze-medal team at the 2001 World Junior Championships and later appeared for the senior national team at the 2004 Spengler Cup and the 2006 World Championship.
A possible source of confusion is that players can have different birthplaces, residences, and national-team affiliations. In Auld’s case, all three relevant clues point clearly to Canada: he was born there, developed there, and represented the Canadian national team.
