After the Flood, on which mountains did Genesis say Noah's Ark came to rest?

The story behind the answer

After the Flood, Genesis says Noah's Ark came to rest on the mountains of Ararat. Genesis 8:4 uses the plural expression “mountains of Ararat,” rather than naming one specific summit.

Ararat is associated with the ancient kingdom or region of Urartu, in the general area of eastern Anatolia and the southern Caucasus. Mount Ararat, the modern volcanic peak in eastern Turkey, later became the best-known proposed location in popular culture, but Genesis itself does not say that the Ark rested on that single mountain.

This distinction matters because many expedition stories and local traditions focus on Mount Ararat. The biblical wording is broader and does not provide coordinates or describe a visible wreck. Claims of finding the Ark have repeatedly appeared, but no discovery has been scientifically accepted as proof of the biblical vessel.
