Hull City returned to the Premier League after nine years away for the 2026–27 season.
Hull marked that return by hosting Manchester United in their opening match on 22 August 2026. The Tigers won 2–0, making the comeback even more memorable for supporters at the MKM Stadium.
The club’s return was part of a three-team promotion group that also included Coventry City and Ipswich Town. Coventry had been absent for 25 years, while Ipswich had been away for one year.
Hull’s victory was also historically significant because it was their first top-flight league win over Manchester United since 1974. The opening-weekend result immediately turned their return into one of the season’s headline stories.
