Hull City beat Manchester United 2–0 on the first Saturday of the 2026–27 Premier League.
The match was played at MKM Stadium on 22 August 2026, as Hull returned to the top flight after a nine-year absence. It was Hull’s first top-flight league victory over Manchester United since 1974, when both clubs competed in the old Second Division.
Semi Ajayi scored in the 17th minute, and Nobel Mendy added a second goal shortly before half-time. Both Hull goalscorers later left the match with injuries, but the Tigers preserved their historic result.
Hull’s victory was one of two opening-day wins by promoted teams. Ipswich Town also won, defeating Sunderland 2–1 at Portman Road.
