Emirates Stadium hosted Arsenal vs Coventry City, the opening match of the 2026–27 Premier League season.
The north London ground staged the Friday-night curtain-raiser on 21 August 2026. Arsenal entered the match as defending Premier League champions, while Coventry were newly promoted and making their return to England’s top division.
Emirates Stadium has been Arsenal’s home since 2006, when the club moved from Highbury. It is located in Holloway, north London, and was designed to provide a larger modern venue while preserving Arsenal’s traditional connection with the area.
The stadium name can cause confusion because Arsenal’s former home, Highbury, is also strongly associated with the club’s history. However, Highbury did not host this match. Arsenal defeated Coventry 3–0 at Emirates Stadium, with Kai Havertz, Bukayo Saka and Martin Ødegaard scoring for the hosts.
