According to Genesis, who built the ark to survive the great flood?

The story behind the answer

According to Genesis, Noah built the ark to survive the great flood.

In the Book of Genesis, God warns Noah that a destructive flood will come because of widespread human wickedness. Noah is instructed to construct an ark, bring his family aboard, and preserve pairs of animals.

Noah is presented as the ark’s builder and leader, while his wife, three sons, and their sons’ wives accompany him. The story continues with the flood, the ark’s resting place, and God’s covenant with Noah.

The name Noah also appears in the Qur’an, where Nuh is described as a prophet associated with a flood and a vessel. Noah’s Ark is therefore a shared subject in Jewish, Christian, and Islamic traditions, although the details differ between texts.
