According to Genesis, the story of Noah’s Ark is contained in the Book of Genesis. The main narrative runs through Genesis chapters 6–9, covering the command to build the Ark, the Flood, the birds, the covenant, and Noah’s later life.
Genesis presents Noah as a descendant of Seth and describes a world marked by violence before the Flood. God instructs Noah to build the vessel, preserve his family and living creatures, and survive the waters. Afterward, the narrative turns to the covenant and the sign associated with it.
Other religious and cultural traditions also contain flood stories, including the Epic of Gilgamesh and the Quran. Their characters, vessels, locations, and narrative details differ, so they should not be treated as alternate chapters of Genesis.
The Ark episode is therefore part of Genesis, specifically the early chapters before the stories of Abraham and the patriarchs.
