According to Genesis, a door was placed in the side of Noah’s Ark. Genesis 6:16 lists a door alongside the Ark’s window and its three decks.
This detail is part of the construction instructions given to Noah before the Flood. The text presents the Ark as an enclosed, multi-level vessel with a controlled opening rather than as an open boat. The side door would have provided the main means of entry and exit for Noah, his family, and the animals.
The verse also mentions that the Ark was divided into compartments. Many translations use terms such as rooms, cells, or compartments, reflecting differences in how translators interpret the underlying Hebrew wording.
The door should not be confused with the window Noah later opened to observe the receding waters. Genesis describes these as separate features: the door was in the side, while the window was part of the Ark’s upper structure.
