According to Genesis, how old was Noah when the Flood began and he entered the Ark?

The story behind the answer

According to Genesis, Noah was 600 years old when the Flood began and he entered the Ark.

Genesis 7:6 gives Noah’s age as 600 when the floodwaters came upon the earth. The age appears within the narrative immediately before the account of Noah, his family, and the animals entering the Ark.

This figure is sometimes confused with other ages in Noah’s genealogy. Genesis 9:28 says Noah lived 350 years after the Flood, and Genesis 9:29 gives his total lifespan as 950 years. The 600-year figure therefore marks Noah’s age at the Flood, not his age when he died.

The number belongs specifically to the biblical Genesis account. It should not be treated as a modern historical or scientific estimate, because the story’s chronology comes from an ancient genealogical and narrative tradition.
