According to Genesis, three sons of Noah entered the ark: Shem, Ham, and Japheth. Genesis 7:13 names Noah, his wife, his three sons, and their wives as the people who entered the vessel before the Flood.
These three sons become important figures in the biblical story after the Flood. Genesis 9 describes an episode involving Noah and his sons, and Genesis 10 presents a genealogy often called the Table of Nations. In that genealogy, peoples and regions are traditionally associated with the descendants of Shem, Ham, and Japheth.
The passage counts Noah's sons, not all the humans aboard. Noah's wife and the wives of the three sons are also included, making eight people in total according to the Genesis account. The text does not name Noah's wife or the three daughters-in-law.
