According to Genesis, three sons of Noah enter the Ark with him.
Genesis names Noah’s sons as Shem, Ham, and Japheth. The narrative says that Noah, his wife, his sons, and his sons’ wives enter the Ark, making the sons’ number three. Their wives are not named in the biblical account.
These three sons become important ancestors in the story that follows the flood. Genesis 10 presents a “Table of Nations,” associating many peoples with the lines of Shem, Ham, and Japheth. Later Jewish, Christian, and Islamic traditions develop these genealogical themes in different ways.
A common mistake is to count Noah’s household as three people, but the text distinguishes Noah from his three sons. Another mix-up comes from later artistic traditions, which sometimes give the sons’ wives invented names; Genesis itself does not supply those names.
