According to Genesis, how high was Noah’s Ark?
Answer
30 cubits
Answer
30 cubits
According to Genesis, Noah’s Ark was 30 cubits high. Genesis 6:15 gives this height together with the Ark’s length of 300 cubits and width of 50 cubits.
The biblical cubit was an ancient linear measure whose exact length is not certain. A common estimate would make 30 cubits roughly 14 to 16 metres, but that modern approximation depends on which historical cubit is used. Genesis itself supplies only the ancient figure.
The following verse says the Ark was to have lower, second and third decks. Thus, the 30-cubit figure describes the overall height, not the height of one individual deck. The text does not provide the vertical clearance of each level or a detailed architectural plan.
The number is sometimes mistaken for the Ark’s width because both appear in the same compact list of dimensions. Reading Genesis 6:15 in order keeps the measurements distinct: length first, width second and height third.
