X-Men '97 season 2 continues the story from which 1990s animated series?

X-Men '97 season 2 continues the story from X-Men: The Animated Series, the influential animated show that ran from 1992 to 1997. It is a revival and direct continuation rather than a completely separate reboot.

The newer series preserves the earlier show's characters, relationships, setting, and serialized storytelling. Familiar heroes such as Cyclops, Jean Grey, Storm, Wolverine, Rogue, Beast, Gambit, Jubilee, and Magneto return, with several original voice performers reprising their roles.

Season 2 begins from the aftermath of the first X-Men '97 season and broadens the story through time travel. The team is separated across ancient Egypt, the far future, and the 1990s, while Apocalypse becomes the central antagonist. This lets the revival explore both new conflicts and ideas rooted in the original series.

The other options are unrelated Marvel animated programs: Fantastic Four, Iron Man, and Spider-Man are separate series and do not serve as the direct narrative predecessor to X-Men '97.
