With which company did Starbucks form a 50:50 India joint venture in 2012?
Answer
Tata Global Beverages
Answer
Tata Global Beverages
Starbucks formed its 50:50 India joint venture in 2012 with Tata Global Beverages.
On January 30, 2012, Starbucks and Tata Global Beverages announced Tata Starbucks Limited, the company created to own and operate Starbucks cafés in India. Each partner held half of the venture, combining Starbucks’ retail and brand expertise with Tata’s Indian business network.
The partnership followed an earlier 2011 strategic alliance involving Starbucks and Tata Coffee. Tata Coffee also supplied Indian-roasted beans to the new cafés, while the joint venture handled the Starbucks-branded retail business.
Tata Global Beverages later became Tata Consumer Products in 2020 after a corporate reorganization. That modern name can appear in current references, but Tata Global Beverages is the historically correct answer for the company that formed the 2012 venture.
