Whose 1933 song is titled "Easter Parade"?

The 1933 song "Easter Parade" was written by Irving Berlin. He supplied both its music and lyrics for the Broadway revue As Thousands Cheer, making Berlin the single canonical answer.

The melody actually began earlier. Berlin wrote it in 1917 under the title "Smile and Show Your Dimple," but the tune had only modest success. He later revised it and added the Easter-themed lyrics familiar today, including the famous Easter bonnet image, for the 1933 revue. Marilyn Miller and Clifton Webb introduced the song on stage.

"Easter Parade" became one of Berlin’s best-known standards and was later featured in several films. Bing Crosby performed it in Holiday Inn (1942), while Judy Garland and Fred Astaire made it central to the 1948 musical film Easter Parade. A common mix-up is to credit the song to those performers because their recordings and screen performances became famous; they popularized it, but Berlin wrote it. The title also refers to the real Easter parades associated with wearing new clothes and decorative hats, especially New York’s Fifth Avenue tradition.
