Who wrote The Tales of Beedle the Bard in the Harry Potter books?

The story behind the answer

Beedle the Bard wrote The Tales of Beedle the Bard in the Harry Potter books.

The collection is a group of wizarding fairy tales. Hermione receives a copy in Albus Dumbledore’s will, and the stories become important during Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows. The most significant tale is “The Tale of the Three Brothers,” which concerns the three objects later known as the Deathly Hallows.

Those objects are the Elder Wand, the Resurrection Stone, and the Cloak of Invisibility. Hermione recognizes the symbol associated with the Hallows after seeing it in Xenophilius Lovegood’s home. The book therefore provides both cultural background and a clue central to the final adventure.

Beedle is a fictional author within the wizarding world. He is not the real-world author of the published companion book. J. K. Rowling wrote the modern book, but its in-universe stories are credited to Beedle the Bard.
