Who wrote the songs for Disney’s Frozen?

The story behind the answer

Kristen Anderson-Lopez and Robert Lopez wrote the songs for Disney’s Frozen.

The married songwriting team created the film’s major musical numbers, including “Let It Go,” “Do You Want to Build a Snowman?,” “For the First Time in Forever,” and “Love Is an Open Door.” Their songs help reveal character relationships and move the story forward rather than functioning only as background entertainment.

The Lopezes had extensive theater experience before working with Disney. Robert Lopez was a co-creator of Avenue Q and The Book of Mormon, while Kristen Anderson-Lopez had written for stage and screen. Their Frozen work earned the Academy Award for Best Original Song for “Let It Go.”

They are distinct from Christophe Beck, who composed the film’s instrumental score. Songwriters create the individual vocal numbers, while a score composer writes much of the orchestral music accompanying scenes and transitions.
