Brian May wrote Queen's song “We Will Rock You.”

The song was created during Queen's 1977 A Day at the Races Tour, after May and the band noticed how strongly audiences participated by stamping and clapping along. He designed a simple, powerful rhythm that crowds could reproduce themselves: two stomps followed by a clap.

Queen released the track on the 1977 album News of the World, paired with “We Are the Champions” as a worldwide double A-side single. Although the recording is dominated by body percussion and vocals, it ends with a distinctive electric-guitar solo played by May. The stomping and clapping were created in the studio through overdubbing and effects.

A frequent misconception is that Freddie Mercury wrote the song because he sang it, or that Roger Taylor wrote it because of the prominent rhythm. The official songwriting credit belongs to May, while all four Queen members performed on the recording. Its instantly recognizable beat later made it a staple at sporting events and stadiums worldwide.
