The Spice Girls performed at the 2012 Summer Olympics Closing Ceremony in London on 12 August 2012.
The reunion was part of “A Symphony of British Music,” a large-scale celebration of British popular music held at the Olympic Stadium. All five original members—Melanie Brown, Melanie Chisholm, Emma Bunton, Geri Halliwell and Victoria Beckham—appeared together, making the performance especially notable after years of separate projects and changing reunion plans.
They performed a medley of “Wannabe” and “Spice Up Your Life,” arriving on specially decorated London-style taxis. The performance became one of the ceremony’s most remembered moments and was widely described as a major highlight of the London Games.
A common mix-up is confusing the performance year with the group’s original peak in the late 1990s, or with their 2007–2008 reunion tour. The Olympic appearance took place specifically in 2012; it is also generally regarded as the last performance by all five Spice Girls together as a quintet.
