Who wrote the song "Radio Ga Ga"?

Who wrote the song "Radio Ga Ga"? Roger Taylor wrote it. Queen's drummer developed the song after hearing his young son say something like "radio ca-ca" while listening to the radio in Los Angeles. Taylor initially worked on the track as a possible solo project, using a synthesizer and LinnDrum machine during an intensive studio session.

When Queen heard the demo, John Deacon added the bass line and Freddie Mercury helped reshape the arrangement and lyrics. Despite those important contributions, Taylor received the songwriting credit because he originated the composition. The song became the opening track on Queen's 1984 album The Works.

"Radio Ga Ga" is a nostalgic defence of radio at a time when television and MTV were becoming increasingly influential. Its lyrics refer to radio drama, Orson Welles's 1938 War of the Worlds broadcast and Winston Churchill's wartime speeches. The famous audience-clapping routine became a major part of Queen's live performances, including their 1985 Live Aid appearance.
