Who wrote the song "Another One Bites the Dust"?

John Deacon wrote the song “Another One Bites the Dust.” Deacon, Queen’s bassist, also played most of the instruments on the studio recording, including bass, piano, electric guitar, and handclaps.

The song appeared on Queen’s eighth studio album, The Game, and was recorded at Musicland Studios in Munich. Its bass line was inspired by “Good Times” by Chic, giving the track its distinctive funk and disco-influenced sound. Freddie Mercury sang the studio lead vocal, while Brian May added guitar textures and Roger Taylor contributed to the drum track.

A common mix-up is crediting the song to Mercury, May, or Taylor because they were Queen’s most visible performers and frequent songwriters. However, the official writing credit belongs to Deacon alone. The single became Queen’s second and final US Billboard Hot 100 number-one hit, spending three weeks at the top in 1980. Michael Jackson reportedly encouraged the band to release it as a single after hearing it performed live.
