Who wrote the fantasy novel The Lord of the Rings?
Answer
J.R.R. Tolkien
Answer
J.R.R. Tolkien
J.R.R. Tolkien wrote the fantasy novel The Lord of the Rings.
Tolkien was an English writer, philologist, and university professor whose Middle-earth stories became central works of modern fantasy literature. He began developing the mythology behind Middle-earth long before completing The Lord of the Rings.
The work was written as a single long narrative but published in three volumes: The Fellowship of the Ring in 1954, The Two Towers in 1954, and The Return of the King in 1955. This division was driven partly by postwar paper shortages and publishing considerations, not because Tolkien originally designed it as a trilogy.
Tolkien’s friend C.S. Lewis was also a major fantasy author, but he wrote The Chronicles of Narnia. George R.R. Martin created A Song of Ice and Fire, while Terry Pratchett wrote Discworld, so none of them is the author of Tolkien’s Middle-earth epic.
