Who wrote the Emmy-winning 30 Rock episode "Reunion"?

The story behind the answer

Matt Hubbard wrote the Emmy-winning 30 Rock episode “Reunion.” His script earned the 2009 Primetime Emmy Award for Outstanding Writing for a Comedy Series, making the episode one of the show’s major awards-season successes.

“Reunion” is the fifth episode of Season 3 and centers on Liz Lemon returning to her high-school reunion. She tries to maintain a superior image while confronting memories of her younger self and former classmates. Jack Donaghy also attends under an assumed identity, presenting himself as Larry Braverman, a much warmer and less intimidating version of himself.

The episode originally aired on December 4, 2008. It also received recognition for directing, with Beth McCarthy-Miller earning an Emmy nomination. Tina Fey submitted the episode for lead-actress consideration, although she did not win that category.

A common mix-up is confusing Hubbard’s writing credit with Robert Carlock’s. Carlock wrote “Apollo, Apollo,” which won a Writers Guild of America award, while Hubbard received the Emmy for “Reunion.” Hubbard later worked on shows including Parks and Recreation, Superstore, and Loot.
