Danny Baker is originally from Ottawa, Canada, in 30 Rock. The character, played by Cheyenne Jackson, is introduced as a new TGS cast member in the show’s fourth season.
Danny’s background is deliberately unusual. Before coming to New York, he starred in a movie about Canadian football and worked as a robotic street performer. His original name is Jack Baker, but Jack Donaghy renames him “Danny” because having two characters called Jack would be confusing around the workplace.
Danny is portrayed as earnest, talented, and notably good at singing. He briefly dates Liz Lemon, creating tension with Jack, who is protective of Liz and ultimately persuades Danny to end the relationship. Danny’s Canadian identity also supplies several jokes about cultural differences and his eventual immigration problems.
Ottawa is Canada’s national capital, located in Ontario near the Quebec border. It should not be confused with Montreal, Vancouver, or Toronto, the larger and more internationally prominent Canadian cities offered as distractors.
