Which season of 30 Rock premiered on January 12, 2012?

Season 6 of 30 Rock premiered on January 12, 2012.

The sixth season opened with “Dance Like Nobody’s Watching,” which was the series’ 104th episode overall. It aired on NBC after the show’s fifth season and began a 22-episode run that concluded on May 17, 2012. Season 6 was unusual in the show’s scheduling history because it premiered in January rather than during the autumn television launch period.

The delayed start was connected to Tina Fey’s pregnancy. NBC renewed 30 Rock for a sixth season, but the network planned the season as a midseason return. When the premiere arrived, the episode resumed the series’ familiar ensemble format, following Liz Lemon, Jack Donaghy, Jenna Maroney, Tracy Jordan, and Kenneth Parcell.

Season 6 also sits between the show’s fifth and final seventh seasons. It included storylines involving Liz’s emotional development, Jack’s efforts to recover his wife from North Korea, Kenneth’s corporate ups and downs, and Jenna’s reality-television ambitions. The premiere date is therefore a precise season identifier, not the show’s original launch date: the series itself began in 2006.
