Who wrote the children's novel Charlie and the Chocolate Factory?

The story behind the answer

Roald Dahl wrote the children's novel Charlie and the Chocolate Factory.

The novel was published in 1964 and follows Charlie Bucket, a boy who visits Willy Wonka's mysterious chocolate factory after finding a Golden Ticket. Its imaginative setting combines chocolate-making with fantastical inventions and moral lessons.

Dahl later wrote a sequel, Charlie and the Great Glass Elevator, published in 1972. The story has also been adapted into films, including Willy Wonka & the Chocolate Factory in 1971 and Charlie and the Chocolate Factory in 2005.

A common mix-up is confusing the author with the actors who played Willy Wonka. Gene Wilder and Johnny Depp portrayed the character in the two major film adaptations, while Dahl created him in the original book.
