Which chocolate brand uses the advertising slogan “Have a break, have a KitKat”?

The story behind the answer

The chocolate brand using the advertising slogan “Have a break, have a KitKat” is KitKat.

The slogan was created for KitKat advertising in the United Kingdom in 1957 by Donald Gilles, an executive at the J. Walter Thompson agency. Its wording connected the product’s individually breakable fingers with the idea of taking a short rest during the day.

KitKat itself originated in the United Kingdom. Rowntree’s introduced the product in 1935 as Rowntree’s Chocolate Crisp, and it was renamed Kit Kat Chocolate Crisp in 1937. Nestlé acquired Rowntree’s in 1988 and now markets KitKat globally, except in some regions where licensing arrangements differ.

The slogan is one of the best-known advertising lines associated with a chocolate bar. The phrase is sometimes written with punctuation variations in different campaigns, but the brand and its central message remain the same. KitKat’s bar format also makes the slogan especially memorable: the fingers are designed to be snapped apart.
