Who wrote and illustrated the manga series Naruto?

The story behind the answer

Masashi Kishimoto wrote and illustrated the manga series Naruto.

Naruto follows Naruto Uzumaki, a young ninja seeking recognition and aspiring to become Hokage, the leader of his village. The story is set primarily in a fictional world of hidden ninja villages, with combat techniques, clan histories, and political conflicts shaping the plot.

The manga began in Shueisha’s Weekly Shōnen Jump in 1999. Its serialization ended in 2014 after 700 chapters, which were collected into 72 tankōbon volumes. The anime adaptation helped make the series internationally popular and was followed by Naruto: Shippuden.

Kishimoto’s work is sometimes confused with One Piece or Bleach because all three were major Weekly Shōnen Jump series from overlapping periods. Their creators are different: Eiichiro Oda created One Piece, while Tite Kubo created Bleach.
