Who won the UFC middleweight title from Michael Bisping at UFC 217?

The story behind the answer

Georges St-Pierre won the UFC middleweight title from Michael Bisping at UFC 217.

St-Pierre defeated Bisping by third-round submission on November 4, 2017, at Madison Square Garden in New York City. He dropped Bisping with a left hook late in the third round, then finished the fight with a rear-naked choke.

The victory made St-Pierre a two-division UFC champion. He had previously held the welterweight title and defended it successfully nine times before taking a four-year break from competition. His return against Bisping was his first professional fight since 2013.

St-Pierre vacated the middleweight championship in 2017 because of health issues, including ulcerative colitis. Robert Whittaker then defeated Luke Rockhold at UFC 221 for an interim title, while later undisputed championship history developed separately.
