Who won the UFC 300 main event against Jamahal Hill?

The story behind the answer

Alex Pereira won the UFC 300 main event against Jamahal Hill.

Pereira and Hill met for the vacant UFC light heavyweight championship on April 13, 2024, at T-Mobile Arena in the Las Vegas area. Hill had previously held the belt but was forced to vacate it after suffering a ruptured Achilles tendon. Pereira later won the vacant title by defeating Jiří Procházka at UFC 295.

The UFC 300 fight was competitive early, but Pereira ended it in the first round. After an exchange in which Hill appeared to touch Pereira’s groin, referee Herb Dean paused the action without awarding a time-out. Pereira immediately attacked with a left hook and followed with punches, forcing the stoppage at 3:14.

Pereira retained the light heavyweight title and added another major knockout to a career built on elite kickboxing power. The result also made him a two-division UFC champion, following his earlier middleweight championship reign. The main-event finish is sometimes remembered as a controversial sequence because Hill was not given a formal recovery break after the groin contact.
