Who won the Tour de France in 2018?
Answer
Geraint Thomas
Answer
Geraint Thomas
Geraint Thomas won the Tour de France in 2018.
The Welsh rider took the yellow jersey during the Alpine stages and defended it through the Pyrenees and the penultimate individual time trial. He finished the three-week race ahead of Tom Dumoulin, with teammate Chris Froome third. The victory made Thomas the first Welshman to win the Tour de France and only the third British winner at that time.
Thomas’s decisive breakthrough came in the Alps. He won stage 11 at La Rosière and stage 12, which finished after the climb to Alpe d’Huez. Those results gave him a substantial advantage over the other general-classification contenders.
Chris Froome is the tempting mix-up: he was the defending champion and finished third in 2018, while Bradley Wiggins had won in 2012. Simon Yates, meanwhile, won the 2018 Vuelta a España, not the Tour de France.
