Bugha won the solo championship at the 2019 Fortnite World Cup.
Bugha is the competitive name of American Fortnite player Kyle Giersdorf. He won the solo finals of the inaugural Fortnite World Cup at Arthur Ashe Stadium in New York City on July 28, 2019. The event brought together 100 qualified players, who competed across six matches.
Giersdorf finished first with 59 points, a commanding lead over second-place finisher Harrison “Psalm” Chang, who scored 33. The scoring system rewarded both eliminations and match placement, so consistent high finishes mattered alongside defeating opponents. Bugha’s performance earned him the solo title and a $3 million first prize.
The tournament also included a separate duos championship, won by Aqua and Nyhrox, so “World Cup winner” can refer to more than one champion depending on the format. Bugha specifically won the solo event. His victory made him one of Fortnite’s best-known esports players, and Epic later added a cosmetic outfit based on his likeness to the game’s Icon Series.
