Who won the men's 100m at the 2012 Summer Olympics?

Usain Bolt won the men's 100m at the 2012 Summer Olympics.

The Jamaican sprinter took gold in the London final on 5 August 2012 at the Olympic Stadium, running 9.63 seconds. That performance set an Olympic record at the time. His compatriot Yohan Blake finished second in 9.75, and American Justin Gatlin won bronze in 9.79; Tyson Gay finished fourth in 9.80.

Bolt entered as the defending Olympic champion after winning in Beijing in 2008. His London victory made him the second man to retain the Olympic 100m title, following Carl Lewis, who won in 1984 and 1988. Bolt later completed the same 100m hat-trick at Rio 2016, though his 2008 relay gold was subsequently removed from the Jamaican record after a teammate's doping violation.

A notable pre-race twist was that Blake had beaten Bolt at the Jamaican Olympic trials. In London, however, Bolt recovered from a relatively slow start and pulled clear in the final metres, producing one of the fastest Olympic 100m wins ever recorded.
