Who won the first Formula One World Drivers' Championship in 1950?

Giuseppe Farina won the first Formula One World Drivers' Championship in 1950. The Italian driver, also known as Nino Farina, took the inaugural title for Alfa Romeo after the championship's deciding race at Monza on September 3.

Farina drove the supercharged Alfa Romeo 158 and won the season-opening British Grand Prix at Silverstone, the Swiss Grand Prix, and the Italian Grand Prix. He and teammate Juan Manuel Fangio each won three championship races, but Farina finished ahead in the final standings, scoring 30 championship points to Fangio's 27. Only the best four results counted under the 1950 scoring rules, and an extra point was available for the fastest lap.

The 1950 championship consisted of seven rounds, although the Indianapolis 500 was run under separate AAA regulations and did not involve the European Formula One drivers. Farina's title made him the first official Formula One world champion; Fangio later became champion five times.
