Who won the 2024 Open Championship?

The story behind the answer

Xander Schauffele won the 2024 Open Championship. He captured his first Open title at Royal Troon in Scotland on July 21, 2024.

Schauffele began the final round four shots behind 54-hole leader Billy Horschel, but a bogey-free 65 lifted him to 9 under par for a winning total of 275. He finished two strokes ahead of Justin Rose and Horschel, who shared second place.

The victory was Schauffele’s second major championship of 2024. He had won the PGA Championship at Valhalla Golf Club in May, making him the first golfer since Brooks Koepka in 2018 to win two men’s majors in the same calendar year.

The 2024 Open was played on Royal Troon’s famously demanding links course, where wind, deep rough and large undulating greens tested the field. Scottie Scheffler, one of the pre-tournament favourites, finished well behind after a costly four-putt double bogey during the final round. Schauffele received the Claret Jug and became Champion Golfer of the Year.
