Who won the 2023 French Open women's singles title?

The story behind the answer

Iga Swiatek won the 2023 French Open women’s singles title.

The Polish world No. 1 defeated Karolina Muchova of the Czech Republic in the final at Roland Garros on 10 June 2023. Swiatek won 6–2, 5–7, 6–4 in a dramatic match that lasted three sets. Muchova recovered after trailing heavily early, but Swiatek regained control in the deciding set.

The victory gave Swiatek her third French Open title, following her breakthroughs in 2020 and 2022, and her fourth Grand Slam singles championship overall. She became the first woman to successfully defend the French Open title since Justine Henin in 2007.

The listed alternatives were notable players from the same tournament but not the champion: Coco Gauff lost in the quarter-finals, Ons Jabeur exited in the first round, and Aryna Sabalenka lost to Muchova in the semi-finals. Swiatek’s victory also preserved her world No. 1 ranking and confirmed her exceptional record on Parisian clay.
