Shane van Gisbergen won the 2023 Chicago Street Race in his NASCAR Cup Series debut.

The New Zealander captured the inaugural Grant Park 220 on July 2, 2023, driving the No. 91 Chevrolet for Trackhouse Racing. He became the first driver to win a Cup race in his series debut since Johnny Rutherford in 1963, and he did it on NASCAR’s first street course.

Van Gisbergen was already a major star in Australian motorsport, with three Supercars championships and multiple Bathurst 1000 victories. His road-racing experience proved decisive on Chicago’s tight, temporary circuit.
