Which NASCAR track is a 2.66-mile tri-oval in Lincoln, Alabama?

The story behind the answer

Which NASCAR track is a 2.66-mile tri-oval in Lincoln, Alabama? Talladega Superspeedway is the 2.66-mile tri-oval in Lincoln, Alabama.

The track opened in 1969 as Alabama International Motor Speedway and was built as one of NASCAR’s largest and fastest facilities. Its current name, Talladega Superspeedway, was adopted in 1989. The main oval measures 2.66 miles, or about 4.28 kilometers, and features steeply banked turns and long straightaways.

Talladega is famous for pack racing, where cars run extremely close together while using aerodynamic drafting to gain speed. That style produces dramatic lead changes but also raises the risk of large multi-car accidents, commonly called “the Big One.” Restrictor-plate and later superspeedway rules were used to control speeds and keep the racing competitive.

The Alabama track is often confused with Daytona International Speedway because both are iconic NASCAR superspeedways. Daytona’s oval is shorter at 2.5 miles, while Talladega remains the longer circuit. Talladega hosts major Cup Series races including the YellaWood 500.
