Who won the 2019 Wimbledon men's singles final after saving two championship points?

The story behind the answer

Novak Djokovic won the 2019 Wimbledon men’s singles final after saving two championship points.

Djokovic defeated Roger Federer 7–6, 1–6, 7–6, 4–6, 13–12 in a match lasting 4 hours and 57 minutes. Federer served for the championship at 8–7 in the fifth set, but Djokovic saved two championship points before forcing the deciding set tie-break.

The victory gave Djokovic his fifth Wimbledon title and his 16th Grand Slam singles championship. It was also his second consecutive Wimbledon crown, following his 2018 victory.

The final was historic for another reason: it was the first Wimbledon men’s singles final decided by the tournament’s new 12–12 fifth-set tie-break rule. Djokovic won that tie-break 7–3. The match is sometimes remembered as Federer’s missed opportunity, but the canonical winner is Djokovic, not Federer, despite Federer winning more total points during the contest.
