Who won the 2015 NRL Grand Final, the first premiership decided in extra time?
Answer
North Queensland Cowboys
Answer
North Queensland Cowboys
The North Queensland Cowboys won the 2015 NRL Grand Final, defeating the Brisbane Broncos 17–16 in golden-point extra time.
The match was played on 4 October 2015 at Stadium Australia in Sydney. It was the first NRL Grand Final to be decided in extra time, after the scores were level at 16–16 following 80 minutes. Johnathan Thurston kicked the decisive field goal for North Queensland.
The Cowboys had reached the grand final for the first time in 2005 but lost to the Wests Tigers. Their 2015 victory therefore became the club’s first premiership. Thurston also received the Clive Churchill Medal as the match’s best player.
The Brisbane Broncos had led late in regulation time, but a last-minute try by Kyle Feldt, converted by Thurston, tied the match. The result is sometimes confused with the 2015 preliminary final, which North Queensland also won, but the grand final itself was settled by Thurston’s extra-time kick.
