Which club won the 2008 NRL premiership without conceding a point in the Grand Final?
Answer
Manly-Warringah Sea Eagles
Answer
Manly-Warringah Sea Eagles
Manly-Warringah Sea Eagles won the 2008 NRL premiership by defeating Melbourne Storm 40–0 in the Grand Final.
The match was played at Stadium Australia in Sydney on 5 October 2008. Manly’s 40-point victory was the largest winning margin in an NRL Grand Final at the time, and Melbourne failed to score throughout the match.
The Sea Eagles were coached by Des Hasler and captained by Jason King. Fullback Brett Stewart scored two tries, while Michael Monaghan, Steve Matai, David Ball and Travis Burns also crossed for Manly. Matt Orford won the Clive Churchill Medal as the match’s best player.
This result is sometimes mixed up with Melbourne’s 2007 Grand Final victory, which was later stripped from the official record because of salary-cap breaches. The 2008 final itself remains a famous Manly win.
