Who won the 1992 Wimbledon men's singles title?

The story behind the answer

Who won the 1992 Wimbledon men's singles title? Andre Agassi won the 1992 Wimbledon men’s singles title.

Agassi defeated Goran Ivanišević in a five-set final, winning 6–7, 6–4, 6–4, 1–6, 6–4. The victory was Agassi’s first Grand Slam championship, arriving after three previous major-final defeats. It also became the first stage of his eventual career Golden Slam.

Ivanišević’s run was historically significant even in defeat: he became the first player representing Croatia to reach a major final. Agassi’s victory was his only Wimbledon singles championship, although he later won the Australian Open four times, the US Open once and the French Open once.

The defending champion, Michael Stich, lost to Pete Sampras in the quarterfinals. Sampras reached the semifinals, where Agassi defeated him before overcoming Ivanišević in the final. Agassi later completed the career Grand Slam by winning the French Open in 1999.
