Who won the 1927 French Championships women's singles title, becoming the first Dutch Grand Slam singles champion?

The story behind the answer

Kea Bouman won the 1927 French Championships women's singles title, becoming the first Dutch Grand Slam singles champion.

Bouman, a third seed from the Netherlands, defeated South Africa's Irene Bowder Peacock 6–2, 6–4 in the final. The victory made her the first Dutch woman to win a Grand Slam singles title, a distinction she still uniquely holds in women's tennis history.

The 1927 championship was played from 27 May to 5 June on outdoor clay courts at the Stade Français in Saint-Cloud. It was part of the newly international French Championships era: beginning in 1925, the event was open to competitors of all nationalities rather than being limited to players belonging to French clubs.

Bouman was more than a one-time French champion. She had already won four Dutch national singles championships, from 1923 through 1926, and later captured the 1929 French Championships women's doubles title with Spain's Lilí Álvarez. Irene Peacock, the runner-up, also won the women's doubles title that week.
