Who wins the final race of Pixar’s Cars 3 after Lightning McQueen changes roles?

Cruz Ramirez wins the final race of Pixar’s Cars 3 after Lightning McQueen changes roles.

During the race, Lightning realizes that Cruz has the talent and motivation to compete with the younger generation of racers. He gives her his racing number and takes on the appearance of The Fabulous Hudson Hornet, allowing Cruz to finish the competition in his place. Cruz defeats Jackson Storm and becomes the film’s decisive winner.

The result completes the movie’s central idea that a champion’s legacy can continue through teaching and encouragement rather than only through personal victories. Lightning does not simply retire from Cars; he becomes a mentor and helps Cruz begin her own racing career.

A common error is answering Lightning McQueen because he starts the race and remains the series protagonist. Jackson Storm is the principal rival, but he does not win this final contest. Cruz is the racer who takes the checkered flag.
