Who was the winner of the men's singles at Wimbledon in 2016?
Answer
Andy Murray
Answer
Andy Murray
Andy Murray won the men’s singles title at Wimbledon in 2016.
Murray defeated Canada’s Milos Raonic in the final, winning 6–4, 7–6 (7–3), 7–6 (7–2). The victory gave the Scottish-born British player his second Wimbledon championship, following his breakthrough title at the tournament in 2013.
The 2016 final was significant for Raonic as well: he became the first Canadian man to reach a Grand Slam singles final. Murray’s straight-sets victory was built on a strong serve, aggressive returning, and his ability to control the long baseline exchanges that defined much of the match.
The tournament also produced several notable developments. Two-time defending champion Novak Djokovic lost in the third round to Sam Querrey, ending Djokovic’s run of four consecutive major titles. Roger Federer reached the semifinals but later missed the rest of the season because of knee and back injuries. Murray’s 2016 Wimbledon triumph was his second and final championship at the All England Club.
