Who was the mother of Karna? Kunti was Karna’s biological mother in the Mahabharata.

Before her marriage, Kunti received a mantra from the sage Durvasa that allowed her to invoke a deity and bear a child. Testing it, she summoned Surya, the sun god, and Karna was born with divine armor and earrings.

Afraid of social disgrace because she was unmarried, Kunti placed the infant in a basket and set him adrift. The charioteer Adhiratha and his wife Radha found and raised him, which is why Radha is sometimes described as Karna’s foster or adoptive mother.

Kunti later married Pandu and became the mother of Yudhishthira, Bhima, and Arjuna through divine births; she also raised Madri’s sons, Nakula and Sahadeva. Karna’s true identity remained secret until Kunti revealed it shortly before the Kurukshetra War. Karna nevertheless stayed loyal to Duryodhana, though he promised Kunti that four of her sons would survive.
